Low Back Treatment Guidelines
Draping
- Pillow under abdomen (if it is not a disk issue) and feet
- Block pelvis and check for stability and comfort ( Ex. If R pelvis anteriorly rotated, block under R ASIS and L Greater Trochanter )
Hydrotherapy
- Heat to low back and glutes
- State it will be on for 5 – 10 minutes
- Make sure heat pack is stable
- Check in with heat visually, tactile and vocally
Specific Areas
Erectors:
- Perform 2 neuromuscular techniques
- Detect trigger points and state referral pattern
- Negotiate trigger point work
- Heat and stretch area
Multifidi:
- Perform 2 neuromuscular techniques
- Detect trigger points and state referral pattern
- Negotiate trigger point work
- Heat and stretch area
Quadratus Lumborum:
- Perform 2 neuromuscular techniques
- Detect trigger points and state referral pattern
- Negotiate trigger point work
- Heat and stretch area
Glute Max:
- Perform 2 neuromuscular techniques
- Detect trigger points and state referral pattern
- Negotiate trigger point work
- Heat and stretch area
Piriformis:
- Perform 2 neuromuscular techniques
- Detect trigger points and state referral pattern
- Negotiate trigger point work
- Heat and stretch area
Joint Mobilizations
- Glide in correct direction
- Oscillation of Grade 1 or Grade 2
Communication
- Ask if client feels secure, physically check
- Check on comfort of back and glute draping
- Double check on comfort of glute draping
- Check in with trigger points
- Check in with joint mobilizations
- Ask where pain is travelling
