Draping and Positioning
- Side-lying on convex side
- Pillow under area of curve
- Verbalize and physically check pillows are in place and secure
- Ask client about comfort
Hydrotherapy
- Heat on concave side
- State 5 – 10 minutes, be sure to verbally, visual and touch area
Specific Treatment
- Muscles within “Cave” are short and high tone ( ex. Multfidi, Erectors)
- Muscles on convex side are long and weak ( ex. Multifidi, Erectors)
- Outside curve, on concave side are long and weak (ex. scalenes, QLs)
- Outside curve on convex side are short and high tone (ex. scalenes, QL, Psoas)
T-Spine (Short)
Concave
- Intercostals
- Serratus Anterior
- Erectors
- Multifidus
Convex
- Scalenes
- QLs
- Rhomboids
- Psoas
- Glute Med
- Upper traps
Be sure to do 2 neuromuscular techniques, negotiate trigger points, heat and stretch
T-Spine Curve (Long)
Concave
- QLs
- Upper traps
- Rhomboids
- Scalenes
Convex
- Erectors
- Multifidi
- Serratus Anterior
- Lattissimus Dorsi
Perform 2 neuromuscular techniques, apply cold hydrotherapy, perform ice massage, strengthen that side
Joint Mobilization
- Rib springing on concave side
- Posterior- Anterior glide on convex side, state grade 1 or 2 oscillations
- Rotation towards convex side, when pushing spinous process
Communication
- Check in with draping and pillowing
- Check in with technique, joint mobilizations and hydrotherapy
- Explain reasoning to lengthen and shorten muscles
