Posterior Scalene’s Strength Test

To do:

With the client supine, they ipsi- laterally flex their neck.

The therapist tries to bring them out of this position

Positive sign:

The client is unable to resist the therapist’s force

Posterior Scalene’s Length Test

To do:

With the client supine, they ipsi- laterally flex their neck, while holding down the contra-lateral shoulder

Positive sign:

Limited range of motion or a stretch felt along the contralateral neck
