External Oblique Strength Test
To do:
With the client supine, the therapist has them perform trunk side flexion ipsilaterally along with contralateral trunk rotation
The client holds that position against gravity for a few seconds
If the client is able to resist gravity, the therapist tries to bring the client out of the position
Positive sign:
Unable to resist the force of gravity or the therapist can indicate weakness
External Oblique Length Test
To do:
With client supine, the therapist brings their trunk into contralateral side flexion and ipsilateral trunk rotation
Positive sign:
A feeling of stretch along the muscle
